It seems to the visitor, that Andalucia is having one big year-round fiesta. It is true that the Spanish, and in particular the Andalucians, appear to live for fiestas and celebrations of one kind or another. These important events and traditions are woven into their lives. As well as the many wider ranging festivals, Fuengirola has some particularly interesting dates worth noting:

Every Monday

(September to May). Collegium Musicum, the coast's classical and sacred music association, rehearse St. Andrew's Church Community Centre. The Anglican Church is in Edificio Jupiter, Avenida Jesus Santos Rein, near Los Boliches train station. The choir rehearsesin the Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días en Calle El Ruedo, Los Boliches on Tuesdays. Orchestra: from 18.00 to 20.00 hrs. and choir from 20.00 to 22.00 hrs. The Orchestra is currently look for violinists and flutes with some level of playing and reading music. Choir and orchestra will always welcome new members, especially string players and singers with a little bit of experience. Anyone interested should contact Anne Marie on 952 77 54 92. (September to May). The Costa del Sol based Field Club has a Monday morning desk open in the Club de Pensionistas in calle Palomo Blanca in Puebla Lucia (near the Fair grounds) between 10.30 to 11.10 for bookings and membership enquiries. The Field Club organises a varied programme of walks around the Costa del Sol and further afield each month and welcome new walkers to join them. Every Monday and Thursday

(except June and July when only Thursday meetings are held and August when there are none.) The Fuengirola branch of the Royal British Legion meets at the Shakespeare Restaurant from 11.30 to 14.20. Visiting Legionaires welcome. For more information contact Chairman Jim Walsh on 639 463 837.

Every Tuesday

Members of the Good Companions Club social club meet every Tuesday at the Shakespeare Restaurant between noon and 14.30 for a social gathering to book places for excursions, play games and enjoy a raffle and a quiz.

The Club also organises regular excursions to places of interest in Andalucia, Spain and Morocco throughout the year, (except August). All profits are donated to CUDECA, the Costa del Sol Cancer Care Association. Membership fees 9 euros per year and are payable at the beginning of the season (September). Guests are welcome and they pay 2 euros per visit. Every Wednesday

Except July and August. The International Music Society (TIMS) weekly rehearsals at St. Andrew's Church Hall, in Avenida Jesus Santos Rein at 19.15pm under musical director Brian Morton. Music lovers welcome to join them. More information call Sylvia Griffiths on 952 449 298.

Every Thursday

(except July and August). The Fuengirola and District Society weekly social meeting in St. Andrew's Church Hall in Edificio Jupiter in Avenida Jesus Santos Rein in Los Boliches, between 11am and 2pm. The Club founded in 1988 also organises trips to Gibraltar, mystery tours, dinner dances and in the Spring and Autumn holidays in and around Europe. Every Sunday

(except August). The Polish Club meets in the first floor bar of Hotel Las Palmeras from 18.00. And every Wednesday (except August). The Polish Club meets in the Video Café, calle J. Every Sunday

During winter months. Dog Training and Socialisation classes with David the Dogman on the Mijas Road behind Lidl every Sunday at 10.45. David deals with the usual problems of those naughty dogs that will not come when they are called, dogs that jump up and will not come back when called, heel work, sit, down and stays. In Fuengirola the following traditional festivals are important

Carnival (Feb)

Holy Week (week leading to Easter Sunday). There is an open air party Verbena Boquetillo from 22nd to 25th June.

A Verbena, the Los Boliches feria is celebrated from the 12th to 16th July. The end of the fair coincides with the Virgen del Carmen celebrations that take place up and down the coast of Andalucia.

Fuengirola stages an August verbena on 11th and 12th and again on 18th and 19th August. The town's principal fair the Feria del Rosario is held from 6th to 12th October.
